Spring Blizzard

The winter has been so beautiful here this year and last Sunday when it was 78 degrees with trees and flowers beginning to bloom we ate breakfast on the patio and went on a two hour hike. Then on Wednesday the 25th I drove Sean and Austin to the airport and the news reported a blizzard warning for Thursday. I kind of chuckled and I took this picture in our backyard of a tree blooming when I got home on this beautiful day.

Then I get up on Thursday morning and by 11:00 am this is what it looks like. I found it hard to capture with a picture how sometimes all I could see out the window was a blanket of white. I was excited to watch this out the kitchen window while I was cutting veggies for a soup I made in the crock pot that day. However I was worried for Scott who was at work and decided to leave at 1:00 when the whole metropolitan Denver area was closing down for the Blizzard. Schools, malls and Highways where closed and over 400 flights canceled. It took Scott 3 hours to drive 13 miles home. He arrived safely though. Just in time to shovel our huge corner lot sidewalk. Good thing Sean and Austin flew out the day before!

When I first opened the door Millie disappeared in the snow and popped out back into the house. So, I had to shovel a path for the dogs to get to get to the yard. The snow sure piled up fast. They did have fun running around in it though.

So Friday ended up a snow day too for most (except Scott) and by 11 am the sky was clear blue and the beautiful white snow was blinding. Kids were out everywhere with their sleds and boards. I took the pictures below of the dogs chilling in the snow only 2 hours after the snow ended Friday morning. The weather here is very fickle, not a place for someone who doesn't like change or not knowing what tomorrow will be like.

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo

Whitney came to visit us the second week of March and we ventured out to see something new. On Saturday it was a nice warm day so we went to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs. I had heard before that it was unique because of animal encounters and the fact that it is the only mountain zoo in the country. We did not experience the whole zoo or visit the Will Rogers shrine because walking up the mountain wore us out and Sean was just getting over Pneumonia. The Giraffes loved Sean and walked away when Whitney came near (at least when I tried to take a picture). For those of you putting together a list of things to do when you come to see us in Colorado this zoo's website is http://www.cmzoo.org/.

We left the zoo and went to downtown Colorado Springs where St. Patrick's day festivities were underway and we decided to skip the green food and whiskey and enjoy cold water and good Mexican food. With the exercise, warm day and full stomachs I drove home while Sean and Whitney enjoyed a 45 minute nap. I miss you Whitney. I hope you, Josh and Lola move this way when you graduate!

I Suck at Blogging

If you are reading this I have to thank you for not giving up on me. I can list all of the usual excuses such as I am too busy, too tired, too stressed or simply I have a boring life. The truth is I am a pretty boring person with too much drama that I am apprehensive about posting on the Internet. My daughter Chelsea however is a great blogger and you should check out her blog at http://homestylehodgepodge.blogspot.com/. As you can see on her blog March is a busy birthday month for our family and today March 4th is my oldest daughter Whitney's birthday. So Whitney if you are reading this HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Last week we visited our family in AZ and spent some time with Scott's father who has not been feeling so well and Scott's sister Pam came from Florida as well. It was nice to see everyone and I took a few pictures I will post on here soon. This picture show's Wally Sr with 3 of his children Pam, my Scotty and Wally Jr. I promise I will be back soon and come up with something interesting to read!
